Copa América 2016: Free Preview & ForecastNews
On Friday, June 3rd, the Copa América Centenario will kick off in the United States. This special edition sees 16 nations from the Americas square off for the first time outside of Latin America.
As the world’s largest sports data provider, Gracenote Sports has developed a forecasting model to predict the outcome of the tournament. We project Brazil to win over Argentina after sending Uruguay home in the semi-finals and host nation USA a round earlier. See below our full predictions.
Additionally, we have produced a Preview containing Facts & Figures; data-driven insights from our database, providing unique insights about the tournament, teams and players. Some examples:
- The hosts have won the trophy in two of the last seven editions of the Copa América – Colombia in 2001 and Chile in 2015.
- Argentina have finished in the top two most often (27 times), winning the tournament on 14 occasions and finishing as runners-up 13 times.
- Oribe Peralta (MEX) (2012 Olympic Games, 2015 Gold Cup) could join Ronaldo (BRA) as the only players to score in the finals of three different major tournaments (i.e., World Cup, Olympic Games, Confederations Cup and continental championships). Ronaldo achieved this at the 1997 and 1999 Copa América, 1997 Confederations Cup and 2002 World Cup.
