FIFA is the world governing body of football. FIFA asked Infostrada Sports to deliver Live Match Coverage services in connection with FIFA.com. In addition, FIFA asked Infostrada Sports to develop and calculate a World Ranking for the women’s national teams associated with FIFA’s competitions.
FIFA World Wide Leagues
Infostrada Sports has been asked by FIFA for the provision of all highest level men’s Domestic Football Leagues of all FIFA ranked nations worldwide to be used for the FIFA public domain website FIFA.com. For the (live) coverage of matches of all highest level men’s domestic football leagues Infostrada Sports delivers fixtures, live scores, match results, (virtual) rankings, line-ups, (live) goal scorers, cards, substitutions and general match data of all countries in the world that host a clear domestic league. This concerns almost 200 domestic leagues of all around the world.
FIFA World Cup Qualification 2010 and 2014
For the live coverage of matches during the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification on www.fifa.com, FIFA New Media contracted Infostrada Sports as its data collector. For this project, Infostrada Sports has created a correspondent network across the 204 countries that compete in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers to collect match data at all match venues of approximately 850 matches per qualification cycle.
Early 2007, Infostrada Sports started with the formation of its worldwide correspondent network to cover worldwide domestic leagues and World Cup qualification matches for the FIFA.
At that time, Infostrada Sports already had a staff database including more than a thousand freelance journalists from all over the world. This was a good starting point for the FIFA project, but certainly not sufficient to cover all matches. In the countries where we had to start from scratch, local football associations and sport newspapers were approached to make use of their connections in finding reliable correspondents to strengthen our finely meshed network. We are now heading towards the final stages of the World Cup Qualification for Brazil 2014. With over six years of experience in building up, maintaining and improving our network we now have established a world class network of correspondents to manage such a project.
FIFA Women’s World Ranking
Ten years after the introduction of the men’s equivalent and to coincide with the Final Draw for the FIFA Women’s World Cup USA 2003, FIFA has launched a World Ranking for the women’s game. By launching the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, FIFA hoped to give the popularity of women’s football a well deserved extra boost. Infostrada Sports developed, calculates and publishes the FIFA Women’s World Ranking every quarter since 2003. Infostrada Sports developed a ranking calculation procedure based on the Elö ranking principle “The increase or decrease in the rating is dependent on the actual result of a match compared to the expected result.” In the FIFA Women’s World Ranking teams are ranked according to a value that is a measure of their actual strength.
